Surrounders vs Fiverr and Upwork
Updated 2026-08-16
Fiverr and Upwork are marketplaces for online work: design, code, writing, marketing, delivered over the internet from anywhere in the world. Surrounders is a marketplace for in-person services in Cyprus: the cleaner in your apartment, the trainer in your gym, the tutor at your kitchen table. They overlap far less than they look - the deciding question is simply whether the person needs to be in the room.
| Fiverr / Upwork | Surrounders | |
|---|---|---|
| Type of work | Digital, remote | In-person, local (plus some online lessons) |
| Provider location | Global | Cyprus, starting with Limassol |
| Cost to customers | Service fees on top | Free |
| Cost to pros | Roughly 10-20% commission | Free, no commission |
| Payment | Held and processed by the platform | Directly between you and the pro |
| Scheduling | Deadlines | Calendar slots, reminders, recurring |
The commission difference shapes prices. Online platforms take a meaningful cut of every job, and freelancers price accordingly. Surrounders charges neither side anything, so a Limassol pro's listed price is simply their price.
One area genuinely overlaps: lessons. A guitar teacher or an English tutor can work over video from anywhere, and remote listings exist on Surrounders too. The practical split most people land on: hire globally on Fiverr or Upwork when any timezone will do and the work is digital; book locally when you want a real person, in your city, this Thursday at six.
When Fiverr or Upwork is better: logo design, websites, translations, anything deliverable as a file. That was never Surrounders' job.
